AIW Institute Director, Dr. M. Bruce King, and Associate Director, Dr. Laura Lang, of the AIW Institute recently published an article with colleagues in Jerusalem, Israel in the Journal of Research in International Education. The article, "Teacher Leadership Development: Building Bridges not Borders between Israeli Jewish and Palestinian Educators," reports on a unique, cross-cultural partnership designed to cultivate teacher leaders who facilitate professional communities of K-12 educators. Between October 2018 and January 2020, Bruce and Laura travelled to Israel three times to provide AIW trainings and work with the facilitators of the Jerusalem-based team, as well as other regional teacher leadership partners around Israel. Prior to and after these in-person visits, we offered remote, video training sessions for our Israeli colleagues.
The coauthors Dua Jabr Dajani, Hila Katz-Berger and Yael Pulvermacher served as lead facilitators of this Jerusalem-based teacher leadership project; Ariel Levy provided additional support and leadership. They have all become dear friends of the AIW Institute, and we hope this is the start of many more joint writing and professional development projects with them!
